SOUTH OTAGO NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) Personal. —Mr L. Egarr, clerk of court, Baidutha, left on Monday for a holiday in the North Island.—At the end-of-term social of South Otago High School oppor(unity was taken to say farewell to MiE. B. Lothian, chairman of the board of governors, wlio is going to Stratford, Miss Ilellow, a member of the staff, whe is going to Australia, and Mr A. E. Lock, who is joining tho staff of Gisborne High School. On Friday Miss Bellow and Mr Lock were the recipients of bock gifts from the staff and pupils. Fire Brigade.—The annual meeting of tho Baidutha Fire Brigade was held on Saturday night, when there was a good at. tendance. Superintendent R. McCutcheon presided, and the annual report showed that a successful year had been experienced. Fireman Les Smith received bis three years’ service certificate, and five members were in the forces. After the meeting an enjoyable social function was held. Schools’ Games.—The annual basketball and football tournaments for South Otago High Schools were hold at Baidutha on Friday, when teams from Clutha Valley, Toko., and Owaka schools participated. In both sections Clutha Valley proved the winners. The points wore; —Football: Clutha Valley 7, Toko. 6, Valley B and Toko. B 3, Owaka 1. Basketball; Clutha Valley 7, Toko. 6. Owaka 5, Milton B and Clutha Valiev B 1. Scottish Society—The fourth annual meeting of the Bruce Scottish Society, held last week, was very well attended. Tho balance sheet shewed that the credit balance was £157 7s, compared with £lO7 10s at the start of the year, while £ls 8s had been given to patriotic funds. The membership was 289 adults, a slight decrease on the previous year. The following office* bearers were elected: —Chief, Mr J. Campbell ; immediate past chief, Mr T, M. Scott; senior chieftain, Mr V.. McLeod; junior chieftain, Mr B. Burleigh: secretary, Mr W. Taylor; treasurer. Mr J. Allison; auditors, Messrs L. M. Scott and J. A. Stewart; official pipers, Messrs C. and J. McGrouther. Miss P. Martin and Mr E. Russell, retiring members of _ committee, were re-elected, with the addition of Mr N. Drionan. It was decided that the committee be granted £25 to contribute to patriotic purposes throughout the year. A presentation was made to Mr W. Taylor, pianist, and thanks expressed for his services. After the meeting an enjoyable concert was presented by Mrs Dickson’s party, (he singing of tho children’s choir being a feature. As a result of the evening Mrs Dickson was handed £l2 (including £5 from ilic society) for the All Purposes fund.
