OBITUARY

- MR ROBERT FORSYTH LONDON. August 22. The death has occurred'of Mr Robert Sutherland Forsyth, after six months’ illness in a London hospital. Ho was formerly European manager for tho Now Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. After the outbreak of the war ho became Director of Imported Meat Supplies in tho Ministry of Food. The Minister for Food, Lord Woolton, in a. tribute to Mr Forsyth, said the success of the meat control arrangements wms due in no small measure to Mr Forsyth’s far-sightedness, knowledge, and influence. “ Those of us who knew him host,” said Lord Woolton, “ valued him also for his practical common sense and loyalty, which were so important when the scheme of control was put into operation, and for his generous character, strong personality, and unfailing cheerfulness, which .were a constant inspiration to everybody who worked with him.”

[Mr Forsyth was horn in Dunedin in 1880, and joined tho National Mortgage and l Agency Company as a junior in 1896. He was in charge of the produce and merchandise departments at Dunedin for 10 years, later having charge of the Timaru and Ashburton branches, prior to going Homo in 1925. While in Dunedin he played Rqgby with the Union Club and golf at the St. Clair Club.] VALUABLE SERVICE RENDERED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 23. The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr D. G. Sullivan), commenting on Mr Forsyth’s death, said that New Zealand had lost one of its outstanding representatives in the United Kingdom. Mr Forsyth, who had been London manager" of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board since its inception, had rendered signal service to New Zealand meat producers, the Meat Board, and the Dominion, and hy his capacity and personality had! done much to extend tho outlets for New Zealand meat. The High Commissioner (Mr Jordan) had been asked to convey the sincere sympathy of the Government to the relatives in their loss. MR FINLEY J. SHEPARD (Rec. 8 a.m.) NEW. YORK, August 21. Tho death is announced of Mr Finley Johnson Shepard, financier and son-in-law of the railroad pioneer, Mr Jay Gould.
