LIST OF PRIVATE DONATIONS MORE THAN £4,000 COLLECTED •• OLDS ENGLISH FAYRE " MEETINGS Direct contributions from citizens and linns to the fund tor the X'cbabilitation of Otago’s fighting men are now being sought, and in the first week the total collected is £4,086 ss, this being announced by the executive yesterday. It has been arranged that any sums contributed will be credited to any one queen according to the expressed wishes of the donors. The preliminary list of contributions announced yesterday is as follows: —
CITY COUNCIL GRANT. Tbo Finance Committee of the City Council reports having given further consideration to the request from the Navy Queen Committee for a donation towards the Navy Queen Fund. U appears from inquiry that the Navy Queen Committee lias been allocated the support of thu employees of the council’s trading departments. As already reported, no financial provision' for such a donation has. been made in the current year’s estimates and tbo committee now recommends that provision for a grant of £I,OOO towards the Queen Carnival Fund be made in the allocations for the next financial year, and that the allocation of this grant between the various queens be determined by council. The question of the distribution of this expenditure between the various departments of the council will receive consideration at a later date. SCOTTISH SOCIETIES. The council of Dunedin Scottish Societies has accepted an invitation to assist in the “ Okie English Fayre ” to bo held on October 19. A meeting of representatives, ladies and friends, associated with kindred Scottish societies will ho hold in the Caledonian Society’s board room on Tuesday, at 2.30 p'.m. AIR FORCE QUEEN. To-day functions were to be hold throughout Otago on behalf of the Air Force Queen. These include a gala day at Oamarn, gala and sports at Mosgicl, carnival and auction sale at Tarras, community sing at Wanaka, and a dance at Balclutha. On Monday a concert and dance will be held at Dunbaek. Queen Alary Pratt will appear at this concert, the programme for which has been arranged by Messrs J. F. Himburg and Alf. Pettitt. Also on Monday night a threact play will be produced and presented by the Balclutha Drama Club in the Britannia Theatre. ARMY QUEEN AT HILLSIDE. An enthusiastic reception was accorded Queen Airini and Princess Betty (the Public Service princess) when they were introduced to the staff at Hillside Workshop by the works manager, Mr Triggs, yesterday Mr Arthur Macdonald outlined arrangements for the forthcoming “ Olde English Fayre.’' and solicited the support and co-opera-tion of the workshops stall'. To-night the Uavonsbourne Football Club will hold a dance in aid of Army Queen funds in tbo Itavciisbounie Hall It will be “ Army Night ” at tin' Alain Town Hall and the Concert Chamber to-iiigbt, for the weekly dance in support of Queen Airini’s campaign is expected to attract several hundred territorials from local camps. A meeting of all members of the Army Queen’s Women’s Committee will be bold in Boom 1, Third Floor of the A.AI.P. Building, Princes street, on Monday, at 4 p.m., to discuss arrangements for “Ye Uldo English Fayre.’’ NAVY’S DUG-OUT WEEK. Next week the dug-out will be open daily, all proceeds going towards the Navy Queen funds. Every day from Monday to Thursday a different group will be in charge, but in each instance those assuming control of the dug-out will be responsible for the complete stocking and stalling, which makes every effort a particularly fine one. Whore private (inns are concerned those members of the staff who will be in charge of the dug-out have been given the necessary time oil".
