Mr J. K. Goodley, railway bus manager at Dunedin, left to-dav for Wellington to take up a similar position there. Mr Kenneth Cameron has been unanimously elected the first life-member of the Council of Dunedin Scottish Societies since its formation in 1925. Mr J, \V. Munro, M.P., returned this afternoon , from Wellington.

The death occurred at Wellington yesterday of Mr William Thomas Hildreth, aged 82, who was prominent in local body activities. Prior to their departure for Riccarton, Christchurch, Mr and Mrs J. N. Stewart were tendered a farewell by members of the Maori Hill Presbyterian Church. Both had been members of the congregation for the past 16 years, for the greater part of which Mr Stewart had been an elder, A presentation of an electric clock was made to Mr and Mrs Stewart by.,the Rev. A. C. W. Standage and Mr D. Leslie. A presentation was also made to Mr Hector Smellie, treasurer of the church, who is shortly to be married. Dr J. F. Staton, conductor of the Sheffield Choir and for the time being examiner for the Royal College of Music, bad to relinquish his examining duties in Taranaki on account of illness, and with Mrs Statou is en route to Sydney, whence they will fly to Ceylon, the next venue for his adjudicatory duties. What will happen after he fulfils his mission there Dr Staton could not say. Musical matters were most unsettled in England owing to stringent war conditions, so. that after bo leaves Ceylon he may return to New Zealand. After two weeks’ leave, Gunner John A. M'Kenzie. of 15 Forbury road, who was at Dunkirk, left Dunedin on Wednesday to rejoin his ship. He was farewelled by a large number of his friends.
