GALLANT AIRMAN

GOOD SCORE OF ENEMY PLANES •

(British Official Wireless.)

RUGBY, October 4. (Received October 5, at 11 a.m.)

The bar to the D.F.C. has been won by Pilot-officer W. D. M’Knigbt, who lias destroyed six enemy aircraft in the last 13 weeks. Ho was born in Alberta, Canada, in 1918, and was commissioned in tho R.A.F. in 1939. He was awarded the D.F.C. last June.

“As an ordinary citizen who watched the parade of the National Reserve Battalion, I want to protest as strongly as 1 possibly can at the manner in which a north-bound tram car was allowed to break the procession right at tho saluting base at the Octagon," said a caller to the ‘ Star ’ office today. “ What does the mayor think about it? These old soldiers who have again answered the call, and freely give of their time, put on a splendid display last night, but it had to be marred by a tram. Ordinary motor vehicles can be halted when it suits the ends of authority to do so,” our caller stated, “ and they can shut up the street for a whole day for a fair. The least respect that could have been shown to these ‘ diggers ’ was to see that no tram broke into their march, which was the best we have seen in this city for a long time. Personally, 1 think it is scandalous,” he concluded. Judge: “ Can you present any reason why you should commit bigamy?” Accused: “ Well, your lordship, 1 came into the world as a twin.”
