APPEALS AGAINST BALLOT DUTY OF SELECTED MEN Men who have been drawn in th# ballot for the Territorial Forces and who have lodged appeals with the Man-, power Committee are advised that the fact that appeals have been lodged does not exempt them from at the appointed sittings of the Medical Board. They should proceed to tha Dental School for examination as instructed and await the consideration o| their appeals in the normal course. TERRITORIALS’ LIABILITY. Some misapprehension apparently exists concerning the liability of men who have been drafted into the Territorial forces, or who are at present serving in those forces, to be sent overseas. The position is that when a ballot for units of the overseas force is held members of the Territorial forces who are 21 years of age and over will be included. Those territorials who are not 21 years of age will be excluded from the ballot. MOUNTED RIFLES. Officers and non-commissioned officers of the Otago Mounted Rifles, who have been undergoing a tbree months’ special instructional camp at Burnham, returned to Dunedin yesterday. A full mobilisation of the unit will be held in February of next year, when a further three months’ training : will b« undertaken. NATIONAL RESERVE PARADE. Over 600 strong, the National Reserve Battalion paraded through the streets of the city last night, their soldierly bearing creating a very strong impression on the minds of all who saw them. All old soldiers, their magnificent bearing and regular tread elicited spasmodic cheers from the people. They were led by their commanding officer, Lieutenant-coionel M'Pherson.
The route taken was along Prince* street from the Oval; and at the Octagon the mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) took the salute. Also present on the dais were Colonel E. R. Smith and "tha Army Queen (Miss Airini Grennell). The battalion then proceeded up Georg* street to Frederick street and past the Hospital to Moray Place South. It ia hoped that the battalion, which wa« played through the streets by the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band and the Kaikorai Band, will be more often seen in the streets of the city.
