KING’S HIGH SCHOOL
ANNUAL CROSS-COUNTRY RACES R. KELLER’S DOUBLE Two hundred and five boys took part in the annual cross-country races staged by King’s High School on Thursday atiernooa under favourable conditions, 85 taking’ part in the junior event and IkO m mo senior. Both races started in Mam Avenue, along lorbury Crescent, on to h'orbury road, the juniors proceeding u> the beach and along towards Kettle Bant, returning along Moreau street and lorbury Crescent to tne starting point, the distance being approximately 2£ miles. Tna seniors followed the same route to lorbury road, and then proceeded along Bedford and Norfolk streets to Cliffs road, then along the Esplanade and on towards Kettlo Park, returning by the same route as the juniors, the distance being about three miles.
The winner of the senior event was K. Keller, who put up a fine performance in accomplishing the double, as ho also won. the sealed handicap from scratch, , his actual time being Ifimin 33sec. Keller has already shown promise as a middie-distanca runner on the track, and lie finished very strongly in yesterday’s race. Second placa wont to C. Duncan and third to G. M'Kay, the same runners occupying similar positions in the sealed handicap. The junior event was won by J. Mitchell in 13min 57sec, R. G. Pearson being close up second. N. R. Frew (2miu) won the sealed handicap, his actual time being 14rnin bSseo. S. M'Kenzie (IJmin) was runner-up, and R. G. Pearson \va» third.
After the races the rector (Mr D. S, Chisholm) expressed the thanks of the school to the Caversham and Civil Service Harrier and Amateur Athletic Clubs for the interest they took in the race, and he mentioned that these clubs had given the school a good start, these races making « welcome addition to the outside activities.
Mrs White presented the trophies to the successful competitors, R. Keller taking the Caversham Harriers’ Cup for fastest tijne in the senior and also the cup for the senior handicap. J. Mitchell won the Caversham Harriers’ Cup for fastest time in the junior, N. R. Frew taking a cup presented by L. K. White for the junior handicap. Mr 0.- J.
