MILK ZONING SCHEME
RESENTED BY CONSUMERS REFUSE TO TAKE DELIVERY [Pek United Pkess Association - .] ASHBURTON, October 4. When hundreds of consumers refused to take delivery of their milk under the zoning scheme which started on Tuesday morning the milkmen met and decided to return to their old rounds the next day. The public resented being compulsorily zoned, and the milkmen were turned away when they approached the homes of new customers. The rejection by the public of the scheme was notified to Wellington and an officer of the Department of Health came to Ashburton on Wednesday and mot the milkmen. He was plainly told that the plan was all right on paper, hut unworkable in practice, and that the public resented being dictated to. The officer is to make a report to the Government.
A public meeting last evening decided to send telegrams to tho Government stating the town’s disapproval of the system. Tho meeting also protested against the proposed shops and offices hours legislation.
