Mr Garth Callaway left to-day for Christchurch. Rev. J. H, Robertson was a passenger by the through express to-day ou his way back to Christchurch. Word has been received that Dr Lindsay Rogers, son of Mrs D. H. Rogers, of Roslyn, has been appointed surgeon-specialist in a British military base hospital, and promoted to the rank of major. Dr Rogers left New Zealand in February last to enlist in the British Army, and since then has been attached to a field ambulance unit. information has been received in Timaru that Lieutenant-colonel L. M. Tnglis has been appointed brigadier of the New Zealand Infantry Brigade in Egypt, with the rank of colonel. The following are the results of the examination conducted by the New Zealand Red Cross Society, Otago Centre, in home nursing, held on September 16;—Honours; Isabel M‘Millan. Monk, formerly of Kaikoura, who was selected as a Rhodes Scholar from Canterbury University College in 1934, has been appointed senior history master at Abbey School, London. Mr Monk, after the term of his Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford, remained for a further period doing research work in history, and at the outbreak of the war joined the New Zealand anti-tank unit, in which he remained till his recent appointment. _ The Rev. R. W. Fursdon has retired from tho Ohenics Baptist Church, Bucks, after a pastorate of 34 years, and intends coming to New Zealand, whore ho wil’ join his son, who is minister of tho Caversham Baptist Church, and president of the Baptist Union of Now Zealand.
