PETROL ALLOWANCES
SPECIAL PROVISION FOR SHEARERS CONVEYANCE OF SICK FOLK IN COUNTRY fJFKOu Ouk Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, October 2. Tho petrol restrictions and possible hardship were the subject of two questions answered by the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, in the House. ft was pointed out by Mr Kidd (W attain) that it would be difficult to get shearers this season for outlying districts unless they were given extra petrol to carry out their work expeditiously, as they travel in their own cars. " He suggested an extra allowance during tho shearing season. _ The Ministef replied that instructions have already been issued where suitable public transport is not available that workmen are to be supplied with sufficient petrol to enable them to carry out their work. In the rationing of petrol the needs of increased production wore being recognised, and special consideration would be given to the cases of shearers. People in the country districts who require urgent medical attention should be given an allowance of petrol, in the opinion of Mr Kidd, who has been informed by the Minister of Supply that postmasters have received instructions to make sufficient supplies of petrol, available in cases requiring urgent medical attention. ‘‘Where a farmer has not enough petrol to journey to the neaAst postmaster.” added tho Minister, '“the matter may bp arranged bv telephone.”
