CIVIL SERVICE CLUB'S FINE RECORD [By Pistol.] The Civil Service Harrier and Amateur 'Athletic Club has long played its part in Otago track and field and cross-country competition, and it is fairly safe to say that its record during the last decade in all branches of athletics has been surpassed by no club in the Dominion. In open competition its members have scored no fewer than 545 wins, and the success of the' club is so outstanding that particulars of its record are given below, and for the compilation of this list the writer is indebted to Mr B. R. M’Kernan, well-known coach and official, to whoso efforts the club owes much of its success. Here is the list; — Edmond Cup.—Teams race 6, individual 7. Kennett Cup.—Teams race 8. individual 8. Otago C.C.C.—Teams race 8. individual 6. Otago Junior C.C.C. —Teams race 3, individual 3. Southland C.C.C. —Teams race 4, individual 4. Southland Junior C.C.C. —Teams race 1. Lovelock Relay.—Won 3. Ness Cup (One-mile Handicap).—Won 2. N.Z. C.C.C.—Won 1. Port-Duncdin Road Race. —Fastest time 6, won 3. Modified Marathon (14 miles). —Fastest time 4, won 3. Nickels Cup (Most Points in Two Road Races). —Won 3, Junior Three and a-half Miles Steeplechase, Timaru.—Teams 1, individual 1. Temuka-Timaru Road Race.—Won 4, fastest time 3, teams race U. Christchuroh-Akaroa Relay,—Won Centennial Race for club teams from all parts of New Zealand. Relay Records. Dunedin to Timaru, 13hr 40min 35sec; Dunedin to Invercargill, 14hr 41min 28sec. The club has had 23 men in Otago crosscountry teams at the New Zealand crosscountry championship. It had one representative in the New Zealand harrier team to Australia, 33 representatives in the Otago team at the New Zealand track and field championships, and two representatives in tho New Zealand team at the British Empire Games in Sydney in 1933. Service Club have scored 545 wins in the last 10 years, 76£ wins in open relay races, nine wins in the New Zealand track and field championships, 44 wins in the Otago track and field championships, 17 wins in tho Southland track and field championships, and the club has won the List Shield (champion track and field club) once in the last decade, A member of (he club was the winner of the first New Zealand marathon championship, another holds tho Now Zealand 10-mile record of 54rniu 31 2-ssec.
