Nearly the whole of New South Wales has greatly benefited by substantial rain, which began last Saturday and is still falling at intervals. In the coastal areas the rain has freshened up the crops and given dairy farmers, particularly on the south coast, new heart. . . Sydney’s catchment area is receiving a drenching, but Water Board officials declare that the rain so far has added only about a week’s supply to the depleted dams. The weather bureau announced that the rain disturbance is veering away from the Australian coast towards the north of New Zealand.
