SCOUT SILVER CROSS

HIGH AWARD TO BRAVE BOY [Per United Press Association,] CHRISTCHURCH, October 1. The second highest award, which can he Avon by a Boy Scout for bravery was presented this evening to David Stanley M'Lenaghan, aged 13, of the Somerfield Scout Troop. This award of the Scout Sih'cr Cross ivas presented in recognition of the conspicuous gallantry shown by M'Lenaghan in rescuing another boy, Brian Spurr, from drowning in a tidal creek at Okains Bay on January 18. It Avas mentioned that M'Lenaghan had attempted to rescue three boys who had got into difficulties, and. though almost exhausted by his efforts, he rescued one and applied resuscitation before going for further help.
