CORRESPONDENCE

CAMPS AND BANDS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In your report on the Otago Regiment proceeding to camp it stated that the Regimental Band and the Trumpet and Bugle Band entrained with the men for Burnham. May I correct this report? According to Army orders regimental bands are not included on the strength of the regiments during the war. The bandsmen who have gone to camp have gone in the ranks, and the bandmaster has not gone with them, but they have taken their instruments with them in the hopes that tho Minister of Defence will give instructions that regimental bands are to be re-estab-lished and included in the strength of the regiment, as has been done in Britain. The camp will bo very dull without a band, and it is to be hoped that tho Minister of Defence will give instructions for regimental bands to be re-established without delay.— I am, etc,, Retubxed Soldier. October 1.
