£25,000 GRANT
PURCHASE OF WAR LOANS GENEROUS LEAD BY SAVINGS BANK Twenty-five thousand pounds is to be subscribed to tho New Zealand Government War Loan by tho Dunedin Savings Bank, it was revealed to the ‘ Star ' by Mr J. H. F. Hamel (presi : dent) after a meeting of the board of trustees this morning. It was stressed that this figure is additional to the £IO,OOO outright gift to the Government for war purposes made recently. Always generous in its' bequests to charitable organisations throughout the city for a long period, the Dunedin Savngs Bank board, bv its action in setting apart £25,000 for war issues, has exemplified the intention expressed by tho donation of £IO,OOO to war funds to assist as much as possible by bequests for patriotic purposes. This latest generous step has given a fine lead to others, and having “ broken tho ice ” in this direction it would not be surprising to find. an increasing tendency for the example to be followed.
In view of the fact that already this year the Dunedin Savings Bank has made generous donations in the city, this latest step must be considered all the more worthy.
