AIR FORCE QUEEN’S TOUR FINE SUPPORT FROM THE COUNTRY COMING EVENTS IN DUNEDIN Tho people of Patoaroa and the surrounding districts turned out in very largo numbers on Saturday to pay homage to the Air Force Queen, who was accompanied by several or tne princesses, the Mayor and Mayoress or Dunedin (Mr and Mrs A, H. Allen), and Mr A. C. Cameron. In tho afternoon a procession of gaily-decorated vehicles led the way to tho sports ground, where tho queen was given a royal reception and delighted the crowd iiv singing ‘Lords of the Air.’ Later she kicked off in a bmHesquo football match, after which there was all the “ fun of the fair.” a feature of which was a meek court. At night the hail was packed for a sing, led by Messrs R. M'Kcnzic and E. i'ish. of Dunedin. The feature was the appearance of a Maori party from Kantano. Over £250 was eolleetcd. and when all tho promised contributions have been received the sum is expected to exceed £3OO The ball held at Clyde on Thursday in honour of the Air Force Queen was an outstanding event, over £SO being added to the fund, including £ll 9 s 9d, which was contributed in tho hall bv the guests for an additional song by Miss Pratt. Tho queen was received by Mrs W. Annan, chairwoman of the Clyde Patriotic Association, and Dir D.’ W. Navlor, of the Vincent County Council. A model aeroplane in the ballroom and parachutes hanging from the ceiling in the supper room wore features of the decorations. In addition to songs by Miss Pratt, recitations were given by Miss _ Lexie Mathieson, Countess of the Peninsula. Door takings amounting to £uf) proved the success of the ball held at Ranfurly on Friday night. The queen and her party were received by Mr Jra Fraser, chairman of the Maniototo Patriotic Committee, and Mr J. I>. M'Gill. of the County were given by Miss Pratt, £25 being contributed by the audience for a second song, Joan Beattie, and Lexie Mathieson, and Mr A. Docherty. An enjoyable concert was staged at East Taiei-i in aid of the Air Force Queen by Mrs Walrasley’s concert partv. Mr A. Miller was in tbo chair, and an excellent programme of vocal and instrumental music, tap dancing, and elocutionary items was given. Every performer was recalled for additional numbers. Mrs Walmsley was accompanist. A vote o£ thanks to tho concert party was passed on the motion of Mr William Blackie. A dance followed the concert. it is intended to hold a community sing on October 7. the Mosgiol Business Men’s Association being in charge of the arrangements. A meeting of residents of Momona. held last week, was addressed by Mr W. P. Tlartstonge (chairman of the Taicri Sub-zone Patriotic Committee) on tho activities of patriotic committees. Messrs Kennedy and White (members of the Air Force Queen Committee) outlined what was being done in connection with the Queen Carnival. The following committee was elected ; —Messrs P. G. AIR FORCE BALL, On Friday night there is to he a big Air Force ball in the Town HalK tho funds to he in aid of tho Air Force Queen. This function promises to bean outstanding success, for tickets arc selling fast. ARMY QUEEN DANCE. Both the Town Hall and the Concert Chamber were thronged on Saturday night when the weekly Army Queen dance mas held, the dance being the most successful to date. The halls were attractively decorated and a large crowd of spectators watched modern dancing in tho Town Hall and old-time dancing in the Concert Chamber. In tho former music was supplied by Mat de Lanoy’s Radio Rhythmics, assisted by tho vocalists, Miss Daphne Jordan, Arthur Waller, and James MacFarlane, while in tho hitter hall Wright’s Orchestra performed. An appeal for even greater support than that accorded on Saturday was made during the evening by Queen Airini who was accompanied by Mrs Dora Smeaton and 11. Staton of tho Army Queen Committee. Tho winning ticket number in the weekly competition was announced at 2,555, and the prize may bo collected at tho Army Queen’s shop in Princes street. MYSTERY PARCELS TO CONTINUE Tho sale of mystery parcel tickets will ho continued during tho week, in consequence of further prizes haying boon given. Prizes may he obtained from tho depot in the old Telegraph building, all proceeds still being on behalf of the -Army Queen. Under the auspices of tho Green Isand Armv Queen Committee, a hall will bo hold in tho Green Island Hall on Thursday, October 3. Queen Airini will attend. ALL-IN CARNIVAL. An “ all-in ” carnival has been planned for the evening of Friday. October 11. All the details have not yet been decided, but there will be stalls "and sideshows, wheelbarrow stakes, with “ bookies,” and all manne rof attractions, A (procession, embracing all organisations in the city, will be held. Hillside, the Orphans Club, concert parties—all will lie in tho i parade, which tho two queens will lead. A separate comniiftoc has been formed to attend to the carnival. _ It embraces all sections of tho community. The chairman is Superintendent Price, of the Fire Brigade, while the Automobile Association has loaned its rooms to tho committee as a central point from which to direct activities. Tho committee should be installed some time next week.
