HALF-YEARLY MEETING At the continuation of the half-yearly meeting of the District Committee of the M.UM.0.0.F. 011 Saturday afternoon tho question of admitting new members during war time was fully discussed. Two remits covered the matter. The first, moved by Provincial Grand Master IV. H. Masters, who presided, gave permission to a district meeting or standing committee meeting to suspend initiation of all persons or any particular class of persons for any such period as might be determined. Described as a machinery clause, it was carried after discussion. The second remit was as follows: “ That this meeting of the Committee instructs lodges thaUpor the duration of the ivar no initiations of niale benefit members shall be taken after September 28, 1940, with the exception of the transfer of juvenile lodge members who were members at September 28, or any other juvenile members who have been in membership for at least three years,” An amendment moved by P.P.G.M. J. Wlison deferred the matter for six months, and this amendment was carried. The half-yearly levy to the district benefit fund was fixed at Js. It was decided to hold the annual meeting in March. 1911. in the lodge room of Loyal Centenary Lodge. A donation of £lO 10s was made to rhe Makogai leper fund. Ilemits carried were: “ That the Loyal Nascby Lodge be permitted to

alter its rules to allow it to function as a lodge of male and female membership.’’ “ That no amount exceeding C'2-1 vhall be voted at any district, meeting from the management fund unless notice of such intention has appeared on the district business paper.’’ It was decided to semi a cablegram to the headquarters of the Manchester Unity in Kngland expressing the Otago district's feelings of good fellowship during the trying times through which people in Britain were passing.
