MYSTERY BAG DAY A SUCCESS OVER £I,OOO COLLECTED YESTERDAY Over £I,OOO was collected yesterday through the sale of Is tickets in the mystery bag appeal. In all, 45,000 tickets were on sale, and while a number still remain, these are being disposed of to-day. Prizes were many and varied, some representing a few pence in value, but others again more worth the winning, an inducement which a great many people found irresistible. Throughout yesterday a continuous stream, of people trekked in and out of the old telephone exchange building, one-way traffic being the rule owing to the crush. With further sums accruing from to-day’s sales, the total amount collected for the Army Queen by this means should be a handsome one. ARMY QUEEN DANCE. Arrangements have been made for the use of both halls at the Town Hall dance to-night. The Concert Chamber will be used for old-time dancing, and the main hall for a modern programme, the music for which , will be played by Mat do Laney’s Radio Rhythmics. The,.vocalists will be Miss Daphne Jordan and Messrs James M'Farlane and Arthur Waller. The old-time music will be played by Wright’s Band. Patrons will be allowed to go from one hall to the other. The entrance will be through the main hall. Further particulars are advertised. ' FULL HOUSE.’ That delightful English comedy, ‘Full House,’ modern in script, setting, and atmosphere, has been selected as the Otago queen carnival presentation, to be staged in His Majesty’s Theatre for a season of four performances—October 23, 24, 25, and 26. ‘ Full House ’ is full of the author’s brilliant sense of humour, full of fun, full of fascinating, and at times awkward situations. The proceeds will go to the queen carnival fund for the rehabilitation of men of the fighting services when they come home, - ‘ Full House ’’ will be produced by “ Griff ” (Mr Ernest Griffen); who will have .the following east associated with himßene O’Sullivan, Edna _ Lungley, Dora MTherson, Bruce Deighton, Fred Avent, Alice Clarke, Harry Westwood, Ernest Fish. Len Ireland, Charles Smith, and W. B. Hill. The production is being sponsored by the Dunedin Repertory Society, and will be staged under the auspices of the Otago Queen Carnival Executive. A ‘ Full House* ’ Committee has been set up. CONCERT AT EAST TAIERI.
Mrs Walmsley’s concert party gave a concert of vocal and instrumental music and elocutionary items in aid of the Air Force Queen. .Mr A. Miller presided. The programme was a most enjoyable one, all the performers being recalled for additional items. A dance followed the concert. On October 7 a community sing will be held in aid of the Air Force Queen. Arrangements are being made for this to be an outstanding attraction. OTHER ATTRACTIONS.
The dug-out in the Octagon next week will be under the control of the Army Queen Committee, proceeds being devoted to Queen Airini’s candidature.
The Casino to-night will also be open for the Army Queen’s benefit. A new feature to-night will be a supper stall —hot “ savs ” and coffee, etc., served in more or less Bohemian style. • Queen Airini will be at the Albany street dance to-night; also at the Town Hall and the Casino, so that a busy evening has been arranged for her.
AIR FORCE QUEEN’S CAMPAIGN
Door takings amounting, to £6O proved the success of the ball held at Ranfurly last night in aid of the Air Force Queen’s * campaign. The queen (Miss Mary Pratt) and her party were received and introduced by Mr Ira Fraser, chairman of the Maniototo Patriotic Committee, and Mr J. B. M'Grill, chairman of the Maniototo Council. The Mayor of Dunedin (Mr A. H. Allen) and Mrs Allen also attended the function. Items were given by the queen—£2s was collected in the hall for her second song—and Miss Jean Beattie, Miss Lexie Mathieson, and Mr L. Docherty. An additional sum of £3O was taken at a barn dance held in the barn of Mr David Iloss, Terrace Farm, Palmerston.
