ANIMAL WELFARE WEEK
'Animal Welfare Week -will be celebrated from September 29 to Ocober 6. The object of'this week is to encourage everyone to take an interest in the welfare of animals and birds. Head masters of all schools have been written to, asking them to address tlxgir children on this subject during this week, and an essay competition has been arranged for children under 10, children 10 to 14, and children over 14, and substantial prizes are being offered for this essay competition, the entries for which close with “ Dot ” of the ‘ Otago Daily Times ’ on October 7. -Ministers of all congregations and superintendents o| Sunday schools have also been requested to address the children on either of the Sundays in Animal Welfare Week on the necessity of at all times being kind to animals and birds. 'Experience has shown that cruelty is inflicted on animals and birds at times through thoughtlessness. Animals are not fed at regular intervals, or are left with' inadequate shelter in bad weather, and in such ways cruelty is inflicted through this thoughtlessness. Parents are also requested to instil in the minds of their children the necessity of at all times being kind to God’s creatures.
