A BRAVE ACT

MAN SAVED FROM DROWNING [Pee United Press Association.] HAMILTON. September 27. Only the prompt action of a passer-by in jumping into the river fully clothed saved a Hamilton borough employee, L. Reid (35), a married man, of Maeroa. from being drowned this morning. Reid was engaged in painting the traffic bridge, when he overbalanced and fell from a height of 50ft. He was unable to swim and half unconscious from the fa!l. Reid’s plight was noticed by J. D. Ferrer, who was cycling over the bridge. Racing down to the bank and plunging in, he reached Reid 200yds downstream. Both men were exhausted on reaching the bank, after being assisted in by a lifeline. Reid escaped, suffering only from shock.
