LISTENERS’ LEAGUE
SUSPENDED FOR A PERIOD The Otago Radio Listeners’ League decided at its annual meeting last night to suspend activities until April, Ib-il, this decision being taken because of prevailing war conditions. At the next annual mooting the position will bo reviewed, but power is given to call a special meeting before that time if necessary. The president, Hon. M. Connelly, told a small attendance, when moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, that, owing to the outbreak of war, the activities of _ the league had been very much restricted during the past few months. As a result, the number of financial members had been reduced this year to 520, but ho pointed out that, while the membership had at one time been as high as 5,000 or 6.000, it had'also been as low as 80 There was a balance in the bank of £2l 17s lid. “ I firmly believe there is a place in New Zealand for a live and healthy listeners’ organisation,” Mr Connellyconcluded. “ and that when a more favourable time conics the league will function as a potent force in representing the views of listeners.” Office-bearers wore elected as follows: —President, Hon. .If. Connelly, M.L.C.; vice-president, Mr AI. Fraser; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Booth; hon. solicitor, Air T. O’Slft'a; committee Messrs J. Edmond. W. Lovell. W. W. Watt, 11. Strong, and R. Matheson.
