Mr F. J. Williams returned yesterday from the north. ' , The Conciliation Commissioner (Mr S. Ritchie) leaves for Invercargill by the express to-night. Motions of sympathy with the relatives of Mr R. Underwood (Otago eight coxswain and coach) and Mr Irvine Love (Otago Rowing Club) were carried at the annual meeting of the Otago Rowing Association last night. At the annual meeting of the Otago Cricket Association the retiring president (Mr A. H. Allen) referred to the death of Mr J. M. Fraser, a former president, than whom the association had had no greater stalwart. Members stood as a mark of respect to the memory of Mr Fraser. The illness of Mr W. G. Pickard, one of the honorary auditors of the association and a life member of the Albion Club, was referred to at the annual meeting of the Otago Cricket Association last night, and a motion was passed expressing the sympathy of the meeting and the hope for Mr Pickard’s speedy recovery. Mr A. S. Bruce Smith left to-day for Wellington to attend a conference in connection with the establishment of the Home Guard. Miss H. [Black, senior officer of the women’s branch of the Physical Welfare and Recreation Department, who has been visiting Dunedin, left to-day for Christchurch on her way back to Wellington. . Dr R. J. T. Bell left for Wellington to-day to attend a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand University Senate. Mr James Begg travelled by the through express to-day, being bound for AVeliington. Mr F. W. G. Miller, secretary of the A.A. (Southland) and Mr D. A. Dunn came from Invercargill to-day on their way to Christchurch for the annual meeting of the South Island Motor Union.
