GENERAL BOMBING OFFENSIVE CHANNEL PORTS AND AERODROMES BOMBED (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 24. (Received September 25, at 11 a.m.) Details showing that the heavy air attack on military objectives in Berlin by the R.A.F. last night was part of a large-scale general bombing offensive are contained in an Air Ministry communique, which states that in addition to strong forces of the R.A.F. detailed to bomb objectives in the Berlin area and enemy-occupied Channel ports, other forces of our bombers last night attacked aircraft works at Wismar, lock gates on the Kiel Canal, shipyards and docks at Hamburg, Cuxhaven, Bremerhaven, Bremen, and Wismar, ■ goods yards at Munster and Han Over, railway communications in North Germany, and several enemy aerodromes.
Yesterday aircraft of the Coastal Command shot down an enemy bomber into the sea.
Aircraft of the Coastal Command carried out operations against the Ger-man-occupied naval station at Brest early on Tuesday morning. Over a torpedo boat station, oil tanks, and stores a long line of bombs . was dropped. Heavy-explosions were followed by four distinct fires. A pillar of dense black smoke was seen over the harbour, and the flames were visible for more than 30 miles from the French coast. Other aircraft of the Coastal Command attacked Zeebrugge and laid sticks of bombs across the canal month. Unusually large flashes followed the explosion of the salvos.
GERMAN MINESWEEPERS ATTACKED IN CHANNEL DIRECT HITS REGISTERED (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 24. (Received September 25, at 10.50 a.m.) The Air Ministry announces that during this afternoon a formation of our bombers, escorted by fighters, attacked enemy minesweepers in the English Channel. Hits were made on two vessels and another was damaged by a bomb which burst close to it. During this operation an attack was made by enemy fighters, in which one of our bombers was shot down and one of the enemy destroyed. "NEVER SEEMED TO STOP" AMERICAN COMMENTATOR'S DESCRIPTION LONDON, September 24. (Received September 25, at noon.) An American commentator on a German radio, dealing with last night’s R.A.F. raid, said the single small formations of Britishers never seemed to stop coming. They dived to below I,oooft. Another commentator said the raid was a kind of rolling attack. A block of buildings was razed.
