R.HF.’S LATEST OFFENSIVE GERMANY AND CHANNEL PORTS ATTACKED BRITISH PLANES NEAR DRESDEN (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 23. (Received September 24, at 11.30 a.in.)’ An Air Ministry-communique on last night’s R.A.F. attacks on important targets in Germany and the Channel ports state: Our aircraft all returned safely from the widespread operations in Germany, Holland, Belgium, and France, which were carried out successfully during last night and the early hours of this morning. The important aluminium works at Lauta, north-east of Dresden, was bombed and fires broke out. Railways in the neighbourhood were attacked at several points, and near Dresden hits were scored on a supply train. Strong forces of bombers also attacked docks, harbours, and shipping at the enemy-occupied ports of Flushing, Antwerp, Dunkirk, Ostend, Zeebrugge, Calais, and Brest. The German authorities claim that they' have strengthened their own defences, which halted the British raiders near Potsdam. A Berlin message states that an air raid alarm in Berlin lasted for over two hours. ' The Berlin raid, the first for a week, lasted from just before midnight until 2 a.m. A Nazi spokesman said that three squadrons of bombers were over Germany. Two of them flew towards the north-west and one made for Berlin. He made the contradictory statement that “the enemy did not penetrate far ” and that “ be did not manage to cause much damage in Berlin. Anti-aircraft guns were in action ir the centre of the city. YUGOSLAVIA AND GREECE DETERMINED TO REMAIN NEUTRAL SALONIKA, September 22. A visiting Yugoslavian Cabinet Minister, M. Andres, in a statement, said Yugoslavia and Greece were firmly united in the same resolve to safeguard their political and economic independence, and wore determined. to remain outside the conflict which was tearing Europe asunder. The Balkans, which showed a desire for mutual help in peace time, were even more eager to co-operate now that they were beset with so many difficulties.
