Prohibition, in the use of spirits at any rate, will become effective one of these days in New Zealand without a poll of the people, ironically said a man to-day after reading the latest list of import restrictions. Being a whisky drinker, he turned to the part of the schedule dealing with his favourite liquor, and found there, was a 50 per cent, reduction in imports of spirits and spiritous mixtures from _ the United Kingdom and other British countries, and 100 per cent, reduction from foreign countries. He lost his doleful look, however, when a friend told him that there were still good stocks of his favourite in the country, and that, even with the restrictions it would be a fairly long time before they were depleted. The war and our sterling troubles, the friend said, would be over long before all the whisky in the country was consumed.#
