ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT

" Spots."—A reply to a correspondent in these columns a few weeks ago pointed out that there was no Teally satisfactory method of removing oil ' stain from wallpaper without damaging either the paper or its appearance. If more wallpaper is pasted over the stain, precautions must be taken to prevent the stain coming through the new paper. For this a coat of size should be satisfactory or another intervening sheet of paper. Use of a hot iron and brown paper might minimise the-stain, but could hardly entirely remove it. The treatment is not recommended, but over the usual backings it should not do any harm.
