FIFTY-MILE PROFESSIONAL TITLE i WON BY L. M'CAUGHAH FASTEST TIME AND CHAMPIONSHIP TO D. NORLAND In flue hut windy weather the South Island 50-mile professional championship, conducted by the Green Island Cycling Club, was held on Saturday afternoon. Twenty-six riders from all parts of the South Island competed. D. Morlaud, of Christchurch, carried off the championship with the fastest time, while J. Sutherland, also of Christchurch, gained the second fastest time. Local riders performed well, and filled the first six places, L. M'Caughan crossing the line first. The race was well controlled by the Green Island Club, the officiate of which were: Starter, Mr U. O’Neil (president) ; judges—Messrs O’Neil, C. Woodford, S. Woodford, E. Hopewell, R. Burgess, and J. Watt; timekeepers, Messrs R. H. Gordon and G. Watt; handicappers, Messrs E. Hopewell and G. M'Queen; referee, Mr C. Woodford; secretary, Mr R. H. Gordon. The championship placings were: D. A. Morland (Christchurch), winner of championship sash and challenge cup for fastest time, Ihr 21min 33sec. J: Sutherland, second fastest time, Ihr 21min 34sec. The fastest time among Otago riders was recorded by J. Woodford (Ihr 21rain 34sec), who won the Victor Nelson Cup. The second fastest time for Otago riders was registered by A. Woodford (Ihr 27min 42sec). Placings in the race were: L. M'Caughan (Dunedin) 1, C. Ralston (Dunedin) 2, J. M'Cartney (Dunedin) 3, J. Woodford (Dunedin) 4, A. Woodford (Dunedin) 5, N. Basse (Dunedin) 6, D. Morland (Christchurch) 7, J. Sutherland (Christchurch) 8, B. A. Evans (Christchurch) 9, O. Gardiner (Christchurch) 10. Tho Victor Nelson Cup and the Scott Cup for most points for the saeson went to N. N. Austin ahd R. Wilson Pyno respectively. The O’Brien Cup was won by N. Whiston.
