ROLLER SKATING

OTAGO CHAMPIONSHIPS The 1940 Otago solo championships were decided at the De Luxe Rink on Saturday evening, and drew a large attendance of both skaters and spectators. The performances of several of the competitors displayed all the grace and poise of the ballet, and their spectacular exhibitions drew forth wellmerited applause. The ladies’ solo title was retained by the holder, Miss Flora M‘Rae. Close to her in points came Miss Jean M'Nulty and Miss Iris Hardie, who filled second and third places respectively. The men’s solo provided the onlookers with some spectacular skating of a high standard. This was won by lan Bright, with J. Bolton in second place. The waltzing and gliding sections of the championships were won by Miss Iris Hardie and Mr J. Bolton, whilst the graceful skating and two-step sections were carried off by Mr and Mrs 11. Greene. The dance pairs championship, which was decided on an aggregate points basis, went to Mr and Mrs R. Greene. The championships were conducted under the rules of the New Zealand Roller Skating Association.
