THE QUEEN CARNIVAL.

TO THE EDITOR, Sir,, —The writer who has suggested that it is possible to improve on several things in connection with the Queen Carnival js perfectly correct, especially when he points out that a procession goes better at night time, as people are by then exempt from their daily duties. Apart from that, it is possible to add to the effect by coloured lights and the addition of searchlights on the miniature representation of a warship, to be obtained by headlights borrowed from motor cars, played on to the crowd _ and buildings from the representation of a war tank as well. In fact, a mock try-out of an invasion on a small scale of this city, with aeroplanes overhead, and soldiers, etc., at fheir battle stations, ought to prove a good drawcard to hold the interest of the public, and would he a good moneygetter, as we all like a good show, with plenty of snap in it. When the music stops at the Casino, things seem to go flat, and at the big exhibition held here years ago the cry of “ chocolates if you wiu and chocolates if you don’t ” proved a great attraction, as, if unsuccessful on the roll-downs and so on, you received a small gift as a consolation prize, and, naturally, we would go along to try our luck again. Side shows are also splendid as a cash absorber.—l am, etc., Arthur Pickard. September 19.
