GOLDEN WEDDING

The many friends of Mr and Mrs P. C. George, of Preston Crescent, Mornington, will join in congratulating them on tho occasion of their golden wedding anniversary, which was celebrated on Thursday. Still both hale and hearty,

they were the recipients of many congratulatory messages during the festivities. Mr George is in his eighty-fifth year, and his wife is 71. The couple were married by the Rev* W. Baumber at the home of Mrs Margaret Laurie, the bride’s mother, Anderson’s Bay, on September 19, 1890They have had a family of seven, four girls and three boys, and to-day there are six grandchildren. Mr George was born at Euston Square, London, in 1856, arriving in New Zealand by the Queen of India in 1864, He has been a lithographer all his life, first working for his father, and later joining the staff of J. Wilkie and Co. He has served with that firm (now Messrs, Coulls, Somerville, Wilkie) for the past 50 years. Perhaps Mr George is best known for his musical interests. He joined the Artillery Band, being appointed bandmaster in 1880. When the Garrison Band was formed! Mr George- was a member, and he now has the honour of life membership bestowed upon him, I* is now known as the Band of the ; Isto Battalion, Otago Regiment. Mrs Agnes George is the fourth daughter of Mr and Mys W. Laurie, of Edinburgh, Scotland, but she was born at Anderson’s Bay a little over a yean after her parents migrated to the province.

Sous and daughters who were present at the celebrations yesterdav were Mt A. George, Mr C. George, Mrs Hassell, Miss L. George, Mr P. George, jun., all of Dunedin, and Mrs C. Rae, o I Wellington.
