[From Our Correspondent] Tiie Lawrence Benedicts will hold their annual ball at Lawrence on Thursday, October 3. It has been decided; this year to donate the profits to the Air Force queen, Miss Mary Pratt. The Tuapeka County Council has decided to donate £250 out of its funds to the Fighter Plano Fund. The patriotic ball held at Tuapeka Mouth was very well attended and proved very successful, over £lO being the net profit. The hall was decorated with red and white streamers. Music was supplied by the Kaitangata Rhythm Boys. Two yodelling items given by Mr B. Smith (a member of the band) to his accompaniment on the guitar were very much appreciated, as wore two very good hnmorous_ recitations given by Miss Lexie Mathieson, of Dunedin. Miss Mathieson is countess for the whole of Otago Peninsula, ami represented Miss Pratt, the country queen. LAWRENCE DRAMA CLUB. A meeting of the Lawrence Drama Club was presided over by Mrs. L. F. Hickman. It was decided to donate the sum of £lO 10s to the Christmas Parcels Fund through Mr J. Himburg, Dunedin. It was decided to get a property box, and members were invited to make suitable donations in the way of old clothes, etc. W.D.F.U. Mrs R. Wilson presided. at the monthly meeting of the Tuapeka West branch of the W.D.F.U. The roll call was a donation of eggs to be sent to the Soldiers’ Welcome Club, a crate of eggs being sent. The competition, guessing the number of seeds in a bottle, was won by Mrs P. Fahey. The entertainment for the social (part of the afternoon was provided by Mrs F. Atkinson and Mrs P. Fahey. They had collected photos of celebrities, and members were to guess the names. This was won by Mrs E. Williams, Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs Hall and Mrs Hunter, the meeting closing with the National Anthem. LAWRENCE SCOUT COMMITTEE. Before leaving last week for Wigram, where he has accepted a position on the ground staff of the Air Force, Scouter J. Phelan was farewelled by members of the Lawrence Scout Committee and presented with a pocket wallet as a token of appreciation. In making the presentation, Commissioner J. B. AUKinlay referred to the time Scouter Phelan had given during the past six years to training the boys in scontcraft, and felt sure that while away for the second time on active service he would look back with pleasure on the time spent in guiding the boys. Scouter Phelan suitably replied. Troop-leader G. R. Weston will take charge of the troop during Scouter Phelan’s absence. The following were added to the committee to replace members who had left: Rev. F. L. Irwin, Messrs G. Weston, G. J. Powley, A. C. Greig. GOLF. A one-club match, played on the Roxburgh links, was won by Mr Chas. Waight, who returned the excellent score of 99—36 —63. The next best scores were: J. Pearson. 89—21—68; S. Frew. 106—36—70; F. Bennetts, 108— 36—72. The /following are the scores for the first qualifying rounds of the Gilmour, Johnstone, and Tough Cups:— Gilmour Cup.—Mrs Gilmour 83, Mrs F. A. Johnstone Cup.—Mrs Frew 96, Mrs Waters 100, Miss Cochburn 100, Miss Bain 102, Mrs Mercer 106, Airs Rao 106. Tough Cup.—Airs Fnigan 99, Airs Tfohan 100, Aliss AI. Bain 103, Airs Bishop 117, Aliss Hay 119. Tin's Saturday the second qualifying round will be played.
