EXCELLENT STRAND SING RESULT £l6 FOR CHRISTMAS PARCELS Over £SO from voluntary donation* was the result of the community sing at the Strand Theatre to-day. Of this amount, £l6 will he ear-marked fop Christmas parcels for soldiers, the remainder being for Army Queen funds. Airini appeared on the stage and thanked sing patrons for their support, receiving an ovation from the big crowd. In view of the. counter-attrac-tions on the streets to-day for Patriotic Fund purposes, the Strand sing leaden must be well satisfied with the response. Miss Ethel Wallace appeared to demonstrate the violin donated, rendering, ‘ Danny Boy,’ while the crowd ioinea in the chorus. The instrument sold fop' £6, while other articles met with * ready market. Miss Clare Rouse, the winner of th» ladies’ scholarship at the Dunedin competitions, was the soloist, ‘ Homeland *• and ‘ Vilia ’ being her contributions. As the occasion coincided with hep twenty-first birthday, she was presented by the sing leaders with a spray.
