—Ministerial. — The Minister of Finance (Hon. W. Nash) will visit Christchurch to-mor-row. In the morning he will inspect the City Council’s cottages for aged persons, and other places of interest, andi in the evening will be the Government representative at the soldiers’ opening of the new Welcome Club premises. At 7,30 he will speak to executive members of trade unions and members of Labour; Party branches in the Radiant Hall, and on Sunday morning will preach at the Avonside Church.
Squadron-leader. F. R. Dix has beett granted a permanent commission in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Accord-’ ing to last night’s ‘Gazette.’ Major E. H. Whiting has been attached to Array Headquarters at Wellington for duty as publicity officer, and has ceased to be seconded to the Central Military District headquarters for similar duty. Mr R. Macdonald, of Waikuku and Mr D. R. Ogilvy, of Foxton,.have been appointed members of _ the Flax Plan Industrial Committee in place of Mr A. G. Long and Mr B. B. Wood, who have resigned. These changes in the committee were gazetted last night.' The president (Mr D. F. Watson) at the annual meeting of the Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club last night referred to the death during the year of Mr E. T. Moller, who had been a vicepresident of the club almost from its inception. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect. At the annual meeting of the Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club last night, a presentation of an inscribed cigarette case was made to Mr H. A. Newall and of an electric, heater to Mr S. Brown in recognition of their services to the club and swimming in general over a long perod of years. The gifts were made by the president (Mr D. F. Watson), and the secretary (Mr E. C. Isaacs), their remarks being supported by Messrs C. ■J. Leeden, D. Thomson, and A. Greig. In reply. Mr Newall said it was the duty of citizens to dq what they could to assist a swimming club. When he thought of the hours of work put in by the committee in the instruction of children to assist their physical development and to help them to become good citizens he considered every possible co-operation should bt given. Staying at the City Hotel are Mr and Mrs W. W. Bond. Mr A. E. Hayman (Auckland), Mr E. B. Savage, Mr and Mrs Bassin, Mr H. H. Bedell (Wellington).
