THE PRIZE STORY
TOMMY JONES AND THE SNOW MAN (By Leonard Thompson, 26 Bellevue Place. Port Chalmers; eight years old.) It was a real Christmas time in England, as the ground was covered with snow. Mr Brown, who loved all little children, had made a sledge and bought lovely gifts to give to the little ones. Before giving them away, he decided to play a trick on little Tommy Jones, who, although he was quite a nice little hoy. was inclined to be greedy. So. with the help of his wife, he was dressed as a snow man, leaving his sledge of toys beside him. Tommy was on his way to Mr Brown’s for some eggs, and on his way saw the snow man and the parcels. “ Someone has left these here. I’ll open them and have them for myself,” thought Tommy. He was .just deciding how he would go about it when the snow man spoke. “ No, Tommy, those aren’t for you,” said the snow man. “ They are for good little boys and girls, not greedy ones.” Tommy received such a fright and was so ashamed of himself that he promised Mr Brown he would not be greedy again. Mr Brown forgave him and let him help by taking the gifts to the different houses. Tommy was so thrilled at seeing how hapov the little ones were with their gifts that he forgot all about his own : But Mr Brown had Tommy’s in his podket. So everyone was happy.
