A HOLIDAY ADVENTURE
Two of the boys raced o(F to the nearest house, where they could see light in the windows. There was a party on there, and people were enjoying themselves. Among the guests was the hoys’ old friend Peter; he opened his eyes wide when ho heard about their catch, but he also shook his head thoughtfully. The boys soon returned to the shore with a whole army of strong men, who helped to haul the unmanageable monster upon land.
There it lay floundering, a tremendous creature with .a great, massive head and feelers round its huge mouth. “ It’s a sheatfish, sure enough,” exclaimed Paul. “ I’ve heard experienced fishermen tell about them. They can live to be several hundred years old: some line chaps have been caught weighing upwards of 5001 b. They’re not harmless either; if they get the chanco they’ll grab geese and dogs; why, cases have been heard of their having attacked bathing children.” The creature was killed and taken into the town on a lorry..

There it was exhibited in the market place. But it was hot the only sensation in the town. That very same night the police had indeed caught the rest of the smugglers. The boys were summoned to the police station, where the superintendent handed them, in token of their courageous exploits, a portion of the reward that had been offered. They were four proud hoys when they returned home from their eventful summer holidays. The only fly in the jampot was that, of course, none of their school friends would believe a scrap of their thrilling account, (The end.}.
