TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —It was interesting ,to read the reply received by tho St. Kilda Borough Council from the manager of the transport department with reference to running of the trams to St. Kilda, also Richardson street, and Plunket street. There is no doubt where the pin-prick-ing comes from —certainly not St. Kilda. First, it only took the department one night to decide to alter the service when the St. Kilda Borough refused to allow the buses to run, but it has taken it over 13 weeks to consider the requests from St. Kilda. Why f The manager states by newspaper report: “ Further, in the event of turning into Moreau street, it would he necessary for fully 80 per cent, of passengers to alight from trams before reaching Moreau street, and thus shorten their journey.” How this is arrived at is hard to understand, _as the car would stop just after turning into Moreau street, and not one of the passengers going to the Crescent or top of Richardson street would shorten his journey, as the car now stops at Moreau street. On Wednesday evening I went, to the corner of Moreau and Richardson streets to travel by the 6.35 car. I took the time for changing the blinds, trolley pole, etc., and this took just on 3Jmm, and in that time the car could have gone round Plunket street and'up Moreau street, as there would bo no need to change pole, etc. at the same time picking up passengers, but the manager and chairman of the transport department seem determined not to cater for the public. It would be interesting to see what the answer will be on September 30. If not satisfactory, then I think that the residents will have something to say, and the St. Kilda Borough Council will be forced to 'take some drastic action. I would like to draw attention to the stupidity of the bus and tram services on a Saturday morning. The 7.55 a.m. car leaves street for the city, and at 8 a.hi': a biis arrives at Moreau street, proceeds down Plunket street and round Moreau street to the corner of Richardson street and Moreau street, leaving there at 8.5 a.m., the same time as a oar leaves St. Kilda terminus for the city. The bus as a rule gets to Prince Albert road just before tho car and picks up all the passengers en route, and the tram goes in just about empty. This time on Saturday morning is tho quietest of the day, yet the transport manager runs a bus against the trams. Why? I think it is about time that the Transport Committee took a hand and saw that the service at St. Kilda is reinstated on the old times, and gave the residents a good service. What is going to happen when the Territorials’ camp at Forbury Park is on. Will they have to walk from the top of Moreau street or St. Kilda terminus, as the entrance to Forbury Park will be from Victoria road? —Awaiting September 30. I am, etc., J. F. Himburg.
