INVASION PROSPECTS
NDT SD BRIGHT FOR GERMANY PROPAGANDA EXPERTS SOfT-PEDALLMG ON THEME LONDON, September 18. There arc again conflicting reports from Germany about tho proposed invasion of Britain. The High Command is still pressing on with its preparations without any respite except for the delay caused by the R.A.F. bombing. On the other hand, the German propaganda experts are soft-pedalling on the invasion theme, and in their latest broadcasts have told the German people that England would collapse under the strain of aerial bombardments and constant blockading, and that the invasion whs off for the meantime.
A correspondent in a Swiss paper, however, makes the assertion that the invasion has been postponed on account of the superiority of the Fighter Command of the Royal Air Force and the damage done to the German preparations by British bombers. Whatever the fate of the proposed invasion may be, the present position has apparently made it necessary for the Axis Powers to have another of their notorious consultations. Von Ribbentrop is now off to Rome, and the Italian Minister for the Colonies has gone to Berlin, which suggests that the Axis may have reached another of their periodical crises. The Italians, at any rate, are carrying out their part of the bargain, and troops have occupied ‘Sidi Barrani, which is just over the Egyptian border. The strategic connection between the Egypt campaign and the battle for Britain is not clear, and it may be'for the purpose of discussing this question that von Ribbentrop has gone to Rome.
