COURSING
NOTES AND COMMENTS [By Pmjmpion.] ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT. “ Inquirer ” (Oamaru).—The Australian sire, Andy, is by Andrew Mieawber—Rejoice, by Achieved—l) ontonson. Andrew Micawber was by Micawber—White Verse. HAWKE’S BAY NOTES. Many usually good performers raced very disappointingly in the Hawke s gay Wairarapa Open Challenge Stake, decided at Longlauds, Hastings. Among them were Full o’ Gay, who, although no champion, was expected to do much better. She appeared wanting in condition. Orui Girl, a good performer as a rule showed no form whatever. China Clipper, a great tin-hare performer, did not even show a glimpse of his usual dash. This dog should be a great winner at enclosure coursing, from appearances and breeding. Helen llufus failed miserably. It is a pity to see such a good greyhound racing in such condition. British Pride, a consistent performer without brilliance, is still a good trial dog, but lacks that three lengths of speed so necessary to win. Flying Joe looks the part, but put little effort into his work. In the pink of condition this dog may be a top-notchor. .... „ Mac’s Gift, although looking well, has raced in much bettor form. Ho appeared to be a little over-trained. Democrat bus the appearance, but as yet not the appeal when in on the game, although ho is one that looks likely to improve with ago. His breeding is right in lino for him to show such improvement. Of the dogs beaten in the early rounds of the Maiden Stake, run in
conjunction with the Challenge, two showed excellent promise. These were Brown Bomber and Mangatera. The former especially was unlucky to be beaten, and the latter, only a youngster, looks like stepping into top-class next season. Sovereign I.ady was the disappointment of this stake, SOUTHLAND COMMENTS. The Southland Coursing Club was unfortunate in not being able to run a stake on its enclosure this season, owing to the fact that the enclosure is situated on the centre of the Invercargill racing track, which has been undergoing extensive alterations. However, the enclosure should be in tiptop order next season. Members of tho Southland Coursing Club are enthusiastic, and intend to be ready for an early start next season. The Southland district at the present time has more greyhounds than ever before, and the quality is there also. The offspring of Latest Craze are still forging to the front at meetings held by the Nightcaps Club. Those showing most promise are from tho finely-bred stud matron Miss Dorado. Among these are Latest Addition, Top Row, Beau Chien, from whom the best has not yet been seen. Next season this trio should win many stakes. Tipster is another one from the above mating who should do well. War Craze, by Latest Craze from that well-bred stud matron, Vonolel, is also a good one to watch. He covers a lot of ground, is well-mnscled, and with time to mature may rank among the best. Cold Tinge (Golden Worry—Vonolel) looks like making the grade next season. Though raced at an early age last season this dog raced well but without luck
