STOCK PRICES AT BURNSIDE Although there was only a medium entry of about 250 head of fat cattle at the Burnside stgck market to-day, there was still a fair number of extra prime quality bullocks. Medium ox formed the bulk of the entry, however, with cows and heifers in shorter supply, than in previous weeks. There was the same proportion of good types. An erratic market opened firm at late rates, and on the average heavier ox sold firm at late parity. Medium grades showed ad improvement of £1 a head, and more in some cases, while cows and heifer values firmed by 15s to £1 a head,. Top price to-day was £26 17s 6d, best heifers bringing to £l9 12s 6d. As many heifers as ewes were forward in the offering of about 1,140 fat sheep. There was not the same proportion of heavy sorts forward, however, but a fair proportion of the penning was medium to light descriptions. An erratic market opened with a good demand for prime heavy wethers, which firmed to the extent of 2s to 3s a head, in company with ewes of the same grade. Prime medium" sorts were 3s to 4s dearer than last week, similarly medium to light descriptions. Hoggets sold at prices 2s ahead of those of last week. Three spring lambs in excellentcondition were forward, these bringing t« 38s 6d a head. Store cattle had a smaller entry than last week, including about a dozen pens of good two, three, and four-year-old steers. Competition was keen, with prices firm at late rates. Rest four* year-olds brought to £l3 10s; three* year-olds, from £lO to £ll ss; two-year-olds, £7 to £9 2s; heifers; £4 10s t* £8; and young cows, £3 10s to £6 15s. Boner cows, of which there was * very small entry, sold at late rates. One hundred and sixty-eight fat pigs were yarded, of which porkers brought from £2 15s to £3 17s a head, or about gi-d to 9d '■ pound in.the heavy grades, and from £2 7s to £2 15s, or 9d'to 10d. in the lighter types. Baconers sold at £3 19s to £5 a head, or about 7Jd to 8d pound, there being a good demand throughout. There were 60 storet offered.
