POLICE COURT
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18. (Before Air J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Thomas Augustus O’Neill was fined 20s on a charge of drunkenness. When in a drunken condition and carrying his swag along the Main North road, Hearstell Thompson (53) threw a cake of soap at a passing ambulance wagon. He was charged with having behaved in a disorderly manner while drunk, and was fined £2. ADMITTED TO PROBATION. Pleading guilty to the theft of £3O in money, the property of Alexander Landreth, a married woman named Clare Alma Lee was admitted to probation. Sergeant Johnson said that the theft took place at a house at Tomahawk where the complainant had visited and taken liquor, the money being taken from the clothing of the complainant. Accused had given part of the money to two other women to keep for her, and they had hidden it in the sandhills, informing the police, however, when inquiries were made. The wallet, a cheque, and £5 of the stolen property had not been recovered, Mr O. G. Stevens, for the accused, said that the woman had some two years ago been discharged from hospital in an extremely nervous condition and had unfortunately taken to occasional drinking bouts and formed undesirable associations._ The accused was admitted to probation for a period of two years, conditions being that a prohibition order is taken out by her, that_ her place of residence and her associates are approved by the probation officer, and that restitution of £5 is made within three months.
