WOMEN’S REST ROOMS
SEVERAL AMENITIES INTRODUCED ALL-ROUND INCREASED PATRONAGE Radio sets recently installed in the women’s rest rooms in George street and at the Gardens have proved extremely popular with .users of the rooms, particularly with women who have been shopping at times when news broadcasts are radiated. The installation of radio sets is only one of several recent improvements or additions to the general appointments. An electric water heater had been introduced at the Gardens, and is meeting with a steady and constant demand. The original rooms in Princes street have been freshened through the purchase of new furniture, and new furniture has also been installed at the Gardens. The three rooms are nowin first-class order and offer every comfort to tired women. Women realise this, too, for they are using the rooms in ever-increasing numbers. Patronage of the Princes street rooms has risen by several hundred women a week, while since their inception the George street rooms ' have shown a steady rise in patronage, bill residents making very great use of them. This increased support has also been extended to the Citizens’ Day Nursery in Moray Place, and accommodation there is now being almost fully used. Many women who now work during the day, having been recalled to factory or office work through the enlistment of men, or whose husbands are away on active service, leave their babies at the rooms throughout the day. Country women, in town for a day’s shopping, are also steady supporters of the nursery.
