ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
EXECUTIVE MEETING The monthly meeting of the above executive was held at St. John headquarters on Monday evening, when Mr H. L. Paterson presided over a good attendance of members. The town clerk wrote advising that permission had been granted the association to hold the annual street appeal on November 15. Brigade district secretary wrote inviting all members of the order and those interested to' attend the annual inspection and display at the Queen s Gardens on Saturday, November 9. A summary of the public duty_ carried out by members of the brigade throughout the Dominion on a certain Saturday was forwarded by the Chief Commissioner.
The Chairman extended the association’s congratulations to all/ members of the brigade for the efficient manner in which they carry out this most necessary service to the public voluntarily. The Treasurer, in submitting the Finance Committee’s report, advised that £l2'lls had been received by private donations and subscriptions during August. Of this amount, £2 6s had been received in appreciation of the work carried out by the three district nurses. As the association is _ maintained largely by public subscription, all donations, regardless of size, are greatly appreciated. The Transport Committee reported that its section of the association’s activities was running very smoothly. During the month of August 167 calls were received and attended to by the four ambulances, which travelled 1,254 miles. Sixteen accident and sudden collapse calls were responded to, and on two. occasions the ambulance was in attendance at race meetings. The three nurses have again had a busy month, attending 68 patients on 465 occasions. Seventeen new patients were added to their lists, and one death was recorded. The nurses come across many necessitous cases, particularly among the aged, and any gifts suitable for distribution to these folk would bo appreciated.
The School of Instruction Committee reported having continued with the examining for instructors’ certificates. The headquarters classes were almost completed, and it was hoped to commence the examinations about the end of the month. The interest in these classes has been well maintained and the average attendances have been very good. _ The Chairman extended congratulations to two members of the executive, Mr W. D.
