DEMOCRATIC LABOUR PARTY

At a meeting of north end residents held last night in the George Street School it was unanimously decided to

form a North Dunedin branch of the Democratic Labour Party, after which officers were elected. A discussion took place on the proposed constitution forwarded from Wellington, and several speakers expressed their determination to ensure the embodiment of true democratic principles in the constitution.

these principles to be of such a basic nature as to appeal to the average man who believes that democracy is not “ rule of the people by the instruments of powerful unions.” On these lines it was resolved that the movement he kept distinct from the industrial labour movement.
