DUNEDIN OFFICER’S DEATH

BURIAL AT CAPE TOWN Keen regret is expressed in the mazarine of one of the troopships which recently took New Zealand troops abroad at the death of Captain W. 11. Creeser, of Dunedin, on board the ship off Capo Town on May 28. The funeral took place at the Simonstown naval and military cemetery, with full military honours, on May 30. It was fitting that Padre H. I. Hopkins, of the sth Field Ambulance, who attended Tiinaru Boys* Hicii School with Captain CTcescr, should officiate at the cere-

mony. He was assisted by Padres N. E. Winhall and K. Hanvira. The coffin was borne on a gun-carriage by naval ratings from the Simonstown naval station and accompanied by their own band. Army Service Corps units provided the escort, and the Divisional Supplv Column the firing party. Fellow officers from the troopship acted as pall-bearers, and all units on the ship were represented. A party comprising members of the Simonstown naval station and of the South African army was also present. Captain Creescr’s keen sense of justice, military efficiency, and tireless efforts in the interests of his men won him the. esteem and aflection of all.
