The regiment has completed the elementary side of its training, the ■excellent weather having allowed the syllabus to be completed up to time. A start was made with technical training on Thursday last, and good progress continues to be made. The Dunedin Jockey Club has cooperated freely with the Army Department, and has placed full facilities at' the disposal of the regiment. Training will be completed on November 23. Helpful co-oneration has also been received from the Forbury Park Trotting Club, and when the Southland Territorials mobilise for their three months 5 intensive training they will find adequate facilities at their disposal. The strength of the battalion will be 773,including 36 officers, 46 warrant officers and sergeants, and 691 other ranks. As at Wingatui, facilities will be provided for Y.M.C.A. activities. While both clubs -have made their buildings available to the Army Department, so that the troops may be comfortably accommodated, the usual racing and trotting fixtures will still be held this spring. Some inconvenience to the general public on these occasions will be unavoidable, but every endeavour will be made to reduce it to a minimum.
