Tlio survivors were fought again over l.oinlon itself, squadron after squadron of lighters Jiving fresh into action: Finally they were chased back again and out over the Channel, from whence, they came. A squadron of Hurricanes winch’ destroyed nine enemy planes began the light over London and ended up over the din’s of Hastings. Another chased a group of bombers from the Thames at Hammersmith to Beachy Head, shooting down five on the way. A Formation of Hurricanes which, caught some of the enemy just as thov were coming up the Thames handled them so roughly that, one pilot thought it unlikely that any bombers would reach home, five Dornlcrs being definitely shot down. Another Hurricane pilot who took part in the first stage of this attack described how tlie Dormers broke formation, trying to di\e for cloud, pursued by Hurricanes. When the remaining Dormers began their Might to the coast they were no longer in formation. bat merely the centre of a general melee, through which Spitfires and Hurricanes, flying at will, were choosing whichever target pleased them. COST OF .LIVING BONUS. At a mass meeting of workers of the I ini t Railway Workshops today the following motions were carried: —“That this meeting considers the cost of living bonus given by the Government to be entirely inadequate, and reaffirms its previous decision that at least 10s a week is necessary to bring the standard of living hack to the 1938 level. That the meeting has no confidence in the Price Investigation Tribunal as constituted, and asks the Government to give the workers representation on the tribunal.” —Wellington Press Assotion.
