OBITUARY
SENATOR J. H. BANKHEAD Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright WASHINGTON, September 15. (Received September 16, at 8 a.m.) The death has occurred of Senator John Hollis Bankhead, aged 68 years. Senator Bankhead, who was engaged in the practice of law' in earlier years, had a distinguished political career, and was a leading member of the Democrat Party. He was the father of Miss Tallulah Bankhead, the well-known _ actress. MR DAVID MONRO Mr David Munro, formerly in th# Railways Department, died in Wellington last week at the age of 79. -Mr Munro was an elder brother of Mr J, W. Munro, M.P., his Government activities being restricted to the Railway* Department, with which he_ was chief traffic auditor until his retirement on superannuation 20 years ago. He was a very keen bowler, and was at on» time president of the Thorndon Club, When ho left Thorndon to reside a* Island Bay he joined the club there, and also held office. He won the We.* lington singles championship on one occasion. and was also runner-up in the New Zealand pairs championship. His wife predeceased him about 17 years ago, and he is survived by two sons.
