—Ministerial.— A visit to the East Coast districts of the North Island will be made next week by the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser), who is due to arrive at Gisborne on Tuesday afternoon, and will remain there till Thursday morning. His principal engagement will be the official opening of the new intermediate school, which is already in occupation. Before returning to Wellington about the end of the week, the Prime Minister will open another new school at Wairoa. His Honour Mr Justice Kennedy left this morning for Wellington to attend a sitting of the Court of Appeal. At the annual conference of the New Zealand Police Association, held at Wellington, the following officers were elected:—President, Mr J, B. Young; vice-president, Mr W. R. Murray; Management Committee—Messrs W. H. Andrews, A. C. Davis, F. H. Healey, J. W. M'Holm, C. S. Rouxel, C. E. Tanner, J. Tither, S. Williams, and one other member to be added. The appointment of Mr J. Meltzer as permanent general secretary was confirmed. Dir and Mrs J. B. Waters, who have left St. Leonards to take up residenco in Dunedin, were entertained by residents of the district at a function in the Sunday School Hall on Thursday night and presented with a chiming clock. Reference was made by the chairman (Rev. J. J. Cairney). the mayor (Mr A. D. Smith), and Messrs Morton, Nicholson, and lan Kreft to the valuable services rendered by Mr Waters to the Presbyterian Church as leader of the boys’ Bible class and‘as chairman of thb Patriotic Society.
Mrs Hamilton (Wellington), Mr L, M. Rogers, Mr Christianson, Mr Blackett. Mr M'Broy, Mr Atkins (Christchurch) are guests at the Carlton Hotel.
