TROTTING

FORBURY PARK CLUB A meeting of the committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club was held on Thursday night, when there were present Messrs B. S. Irwin (president), H. Archbolcl, James Black, A. Ferguson, T. Fogg, C. 11. Hadfiold, D. C. Jolly, James Mitchell, J. Richardson, J. Trengrove, and A. H. Todd. Four new members were elected. Accounts amounting to £1,073 12s Id wore passed for payment. It was decided that the win-and-place system of betting bo in operation for the season. The Dunedin Orphans’ Club was granted permission to use a portion of the park and the buildings on Saturday, September 28, on the occasion of the annual outing for the children of the various city orphanages. PATRIOTIC RACE MEETING. A letter was received from the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association, which is associated with the Navy Queen executive, suggesting the holding of a special patriotic trotting meeting at the park on a date to be arranged. The Secretary stated that there would be a great difficulty in securing a Saturday during the carnival period, as all the available dates for meetings in the South Island had been taken up. It was decided to appoint Mr H. Halliday to meet the association to discuss the matter, and report. TREATMENT OF HARES. A lengthy report was received from the caretaker of the park regarding the feeding and care of the hares of the Coursing Club. The caretaker stated that ho had in previous years, to help tho club, fed the hares, but that, owing to a difference of opinion, he had later declined to can - y ou the work. He did not think that any improvement could be made in the scrub shelters, but he thought that as tho ground in the “ homes ” carried a lot of water it should be raised. , A report ou the examination of a dead hare submitted to Dr 11. Gardner, analytical chemist, was enclosed. The report stated that in Dr Gardner’s opinion the animal had not been poisoned. Tho report was received. MILITARY CAMP. A letter was received from Major J. G. Jeffery, area staff officer, stating that the Army Department desired the use of the park and its buildings and amenities as a military camp for the Ist Battalion, Southland Regiment (800 strong), from September 28 to December 21. It was decided to grant the use of tho ground, and a sub-committee was appointed to meet the military authorities and discuss the details. APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEES. The following committees were appointed:—Finance Messrs Black, Archbold,' Ferguson, Halliday, and Mitchell ; Grounds—Messrs Mitchell, Archbold, Hadfield, D. H. Blackie, Richardson, Trengrove; Totalisator and Broadcasting—Messrs Archbold, Black, Ferguson, Halliday, and Jolly; Catering—Messrs Trengrove, Fogg, Blackie, Jolly, Todd, and Richardson; Programme—Messrs Fogg, Black, Halliday, Hadfield, Richardson, Trengrove, and Todd. Track—Messrs Richardson, Hadfield, and Mitchell. Messrs Irwin and J. M. Samson (vicepresident) lire ex-officio members of all the committees. OFFICIALS. Officials were appointed as follows: Honorary treasurer, Mr James Black; starter, "Mr A. J. Hastings; assistant starter, Mr W. Dingwall; clerk of scales, Mr J. Seddon; honorary clerk of course, Mr F. G. Carter; hon. timekeepers—Messrs J. Kelleher and F. J. Townsend; veterinary surgeon, Dr S. O. Fromm ; hon, birdcage steward, Mill. C. Jolly. SPRING DATES CHANGED. ’Plie president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference granted the club’s application to change the dates of tho Forbury Park spring meeting from November 28 and 30 to Saturday, November 23, and Monday, November 25 (the King’s Birthday).
