No enemy- act could have served more completely to stir the heart of every part of the British Commonwealth than the one so clearly designed to destroy the lives of the King and Queen.” FREE FRENCHMEN AIR RAIDS STIMULATE RECRUITING (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 13. (Received September 14, at 4.10 p.m.) It is understood that the transfer of recruiting headquarters for General de Gaulle’s armies of all Free Frenchmen to larger premises has already in one week proved a distinct success. With a larger personnel recruits are dealt with rapidly, and instead of diminishing the flow the air raids have decidedly stimulated it.
THE N.Z. “REBELLION ” TYPICAL ROME RADIO LIE AUSTRALIAN SHORTWAVE BROADCASTS DENIAL MELBOURNE, September 14. ((Received September 14, at 4.5 p.m.) On Thursday morning the Rome radio stated that New Zealand was experiencing open rebellion. Troops had been stopped from leaving the country to put down the uprisings. On behalf of New Zealand the Australian Department of Information, in a special shortwave broadcast throughout the world last night, stated that the allegation was a typical Rome radio lie. At 4.55 a.m. (Australian time) on Thursday the Rome radio included in its foreign news service the following item : “ At Wellington, New Zealand, owing to an outbreak of rebellion in the Dominion, troops for Britain had stopped leaving the country.” A transcription of tho broadcast was taken by the Department of Information and cabled immediately to the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser. He cabled back an emphatic denial, which was embodied in last night’s special broadcast in all foreign languages. AMERICAN AVIATION PETROL SCOPE OF EMBARGO WIDENED WASHINGTON, September 13. (Received September 14, at 4.5 p.m.) President Roosevelt broadened the aviation gasoline export embargo to include equipment for the production of aviation fuel and specifications and technical information thereon, also on American aircraft engines. WILL KEEP AMERICA OUT OF WAR MR WENDELL WILLKIE'S PROMISE CHICAGO, September 13. (Received September 14, at 4.5 p.m.) Mr Wendell Willkie, beginning his nation-wide campaign, . reiterated his promise to keep America out of war. “ If you elect me,” he said, “ I’ll never send an American boy to fight overseas. I want to make America free and so strong that no dictator will ever strike here.”-
